TAYLOR SMITH

 
 

Taylor Smith is a musician, educator, musicologist, and producer based in Southern California.  Taylor performs on double bass, bass guitar, viola da gamba, and in various electronic capacities.  Refusing to allow himself to be pigeon-holed into any musical capacity, Taylor is equally at home in classical, folk, popular, jazz, electronic, and early music settings.

Taylor earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho in 2004.  In 2007 Taylor earned a Master of Arts degree, with an emphasis in Historical Performance Practices, from Claremont Graduate University.  Currently, Taylor is preparing his dissertation toward a PhD in Musicology from CGU.

As a performer, Taylor has studied with Shanon Zusman, Denson Angulo, Robert Tueller, Bart Samolis, and Marshall Hawkins.  In the realm of musicology, Taylor has studied with Robert Zappulla and Nancy van Deusen.  Music technology instructors/mentors have included Peter Boyer, Troy Hinckley, and David Taylor.

Taylor is on the faculty of Cuyamaca College where he teaches Music Theory, Music Technology, Music Industry, and Music Appreciation courses.  He has previously taught at San Bernardino Valley College and the Claremont Community School of Music.  He frequently performs throughout Southern California.
